MRGCD Ditch User Survey Report

There appears to be board support amongst MRGCD ratepayers
in Bernalillo County for a pilot project to create recreational trails
along some District Ditches. Eighty-three percent of Bernalillo County
ratepayers who responded to a District survey on the issue said they
support dedicating a portion of the taxes they pay to the MRGCD to
support recreational trails. Read the survey results here.

Seventy-nine percent of those surveyed said they already use MRGCD
ditches in Bernalillo County for recreational purposes such as walking,
jogging, bicycling and horse back riding. Read a Power Point presentation
     on the survey here.

Three thousand survey forms were mailed in the spring to MRGCD
ratepayers in Bernalillo County. Nearly 900 of those surveys were
returned. The Ditches With Trails project is looking at creating two
pilot project trails in the North and South Valley areas of Bernalillo
     County.

The survey asked what kinds of recreational activities people use the
District’s ditches for and what types of surfaces people would like to
see for the trails. No decisions have yet been made about trail surfaces.
The District operates and maintains more than 300 miles of ditches
     and canals in Bernalillo County.
